About

Sarah Olivier, Ph.D.

Sarah Olivier, Ph.D., is the owner and principal grant consultant of Worthy Words LLC. She maximizes the capacity of nonprofits and institutions through grant research, grant writing, and grant management. Leveraging her background as a humanities academic and community organizer, she helps her clients make their vision for social justice reality by delivering sustainable funding and building organizational capacity.

Before starting her own business, Sarah was an academic who researched in obscure archives and published about the lives and words of fascinating figures. Her areas of expertise include American literatures and histories, gender and sexuality, race and slavery, and empire and settler colonialism. She shared this knowledge with thousands of students in dozens of classes that she designed from scratch. In turn, her students taught her that words have the power to change the world.

In addition, Sarah brings experience with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and program development in higher education. She also served as the Associate Editor of a scholarly journal, where she restored a lapsed publication schedule and increased institutional subscriptions by 15% in her first year.

As the founder of the Lydia Maria Child Society, Sarah established a not-for-profit organization devoted to the pursuit of social equality and justice, and she continues to serve on the Executive Board. Having begun her career working for a federal K-12 grant program, she feels she has come full circle. This breadth of experience informs Sarah’s current work as a grant consultant who wants to make the world better with the power of words.
